Welcome to the actives part of the wiki! This is a reference for Many Isles actives. Most resources and documents can be found in the Google Drive. For current event organisers, have a look at the Event Organiser's Playbook.
Many Isles is a student association that relies on volunteers to function. As such, anyone who chooses to invest some work into the association – be that by helping with event setup, posting something on our social media or any other way – is considered to be an active. There are many ways to help us out, see below if you want to become a part of our activities.
These are some of the ways in which actives help run events and how to get started.
- GMing: We are always looking for GMs to run games at our socials. If you enjoy GMing or want to give it a try (our players have thus far been very encouraging and positive to new GMs), you can contact us on our Discord and have a look at the GM Guide. GMs do not have to pay participation fees at our events.
- Programming: We have a Technical Service that maintains our website and are always looking for people to help out. So, if you know your way around websites and coding, or want to learn about it from the best (that's us, obviously), you can contact us. We'd be very happy to have you help out! If you are curious about how are website works, you can look at the Infrastructure Overview.
- Organising Events: Help us organize Many Isles events: plan, advertise, host, and evaluate them! We host Event Organiser Trainings whenever there are a few interested folks, initiating them to everything they need to know. This job require a bit of work, but it's very fulfilling, and you enjoy lots of freedom to run your own event!
You can see more at Open Jobs.
Many Isles' activities are guided by a few fundamental concepts, which are smoothly integrated into our regular operations. Nonetheless, it can help to read them, to explicitly understand the thoughts behind the way we work:
- The Events Service Concept presents the key features of Many Isles events, and the administrative structure behind it (consisting of two roles: Event Organisers and the Service Head). You can see this concept "put into practice" in the [events documentation](/Events/Event Organizing).
- This builds on the earlier Events Model, which came out of the New Many Isles process.
- The Actives Concept explains how we seek to discover and nurture actives. Key takeaways are an open mind, an easy but complete onboarding process, and clear and accessible communication.
- Many Isles' current mode of operations and character was defined in the New Many Isles Concept, which was developed from May-July 2024 (and was since refined). In essence, Many Isles is a student fantasy association, and its core activity are regular socials.
